Book cover designed for Ean Parsons’ book ‘Hidden in Full View: A History of the Chief Justice of Carolina’s Mansion House in Sedgefield’.

It was a pleasure to be asked by Ean to design the front cover of his new book – and also quite a challenge! Illustrating what the Manor House in Sedgefield would have looked like in 1707 was no straightforward task. Ean wanted to convey a sense of history and law on the front cover of the book and to show the Manor House as an imposing, stand-alone building. Various images were combined in a photoshop montage, along with original historical maps, to create the cover image.

It was also great to collaborate on the project with Kev Stevans from the Art Room North East, who did a great job after being tasked with designing the main text of the book.

“I was highly impressed with Neil’s interpretation of the images I wished to portray on the cover of Hidden in Full View – he is extremely intuitive. From my verbal description based on the book’s contents which covers historical architecture and colourful characters, and using a breadth of resources not available to me he quickly depicted scenes that accurately represent the text. The result is a high quality piece of design that I feel not only enhances the content but also draws people into the book itself. The feedback on the final result has been excellent and readers are very complimentary of the cover design.”
